This advanced-level piece for the instrument begins with two statements of the opening theme followed by four variations in various styles, ranging from bursts of energy to beautiful dreamscapes. A brief and rapid interlude leads into a large and triumphant return to the theme, yielding to an understated close. Total performance time is about seven and a half minutes.
